Mt. Maria is situated in a prime resort area for year-round fishing, boating, and water sports. National Geographic listed Hubbard Lake one of the ten most beautiful lake views in the USA. Michigan's fifth largest inland lake is named after Dr. Bela Hubbard (who first surveyed Michigan in 1840), and spans 7 miles at its widest point. Spring-fed Hubbard Lake is home to northern pike, rock bass, yellow perch, trout and walleye. Canoers, kayakers and tubers enjoy the quiet solitude of paddling the West Branch River. Other local streams and creeks include Stevens Creek, Comstock Bay, Mud Bay, South Bay, and Sucker Creek. Miles of trout streams wind through the AuSable River Valley, offering some of the best fly fishing in Michigan. Explore Alcona county's thirty miles of Lake Huron shoreline with chartered fishing trips, lighthouse tours, jet skiing, water skiing, or just relaxing on the beach.
